Breaking Down Toxic PFAS

What PFAS are, why they’re harmful, and what we can do to protect ourselves from them.

Following the aftermath of the recent train derailment disaster in East Palestine, OH, the chemical class known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) reentered the national conversation. PFAS are also known as “forever chemicals” and can be found in personal care products, firefighting foam (often used at commercial airports and military bases), food packaging, and nonstick cookware. There are over 5,000 chemicals categorized as belonging to the PFAS class of chemicals.

This week, we will examine Earthjustice’s overview of PFAS, potential health impacts, and policy and regulation. We hope you can learn more about this class of chemicals and what groups like Until Justice Data Partners, Earthjustice, and others are doing to mitigate exposure to and harm from these chemicals.
