WE ACT for Environmental Justice (New York, New York and Washington, D.C.)

For this second week of Black History Month, I want to highlight another partner organization, WE ACT for Environmental Justice. Until Justice Data Partners (UJDP) most recently collaborated with them in our campaign to get Johnson & Johnson to remove talc-based baby powder from the global market.

From their website, The WE ACT Story and its mission.

WE ACT’s mission is to build healthy communities by ensuring that people of color and/or low income residents participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices.

WE ACT envisions a community that has:

  • informed and engaged residents who participate fully in decision-making on key issues that impact their health and community.

  • strong and equal environmental protections.

  • increased environmental health through community-based participatory research and evidence-based campaigns.

This week, we will learn about the work of this organization that has been active in the environmental justice movement for decades. We will also see how their work to replace gas stoves from NYC rental housing has become a national debate on the appliance.
